The new Bohol airport will be built on a total surface of 216 ha (2.160.000 sqm) with a runway of 2000 m length (possibly extension to 2500 m) by 45 meters wide. The passenger terminal building offers a floor area of about 8800 sqm. The airport is able to manage annually up to 1.7 million passengers.

The new airport passenger terminal comprises a 8,300 m² distributed in a single floor. The curved roof seems to float above the building. The large roof supernatant provides more comfort when arriving and departing guests. Planned very beautiful and perhaps inspired by the Chocolate Hills in Bohol.

Construction of the Panglao airport terminal begins

Panglao Airport Building Foundations

Foundations of Airport Building

The construction of the airport building starts with the foundations and steel-concrete work. Originally it was planned to build a single-storey building. Due to the constantly growing traffic on the island, this plan has now been changed and the airport terminal will be built in two storeys.

Looks good so far, but there were also some problems.

First was a problem with some deep sinkholes directly under the runway. But the holes have been successfully depressed, filled and compacted. The problem is thus solved and no further holes more were found. The project manager at the new Bohol airport assures that the runways are safe and also big commercial aircraft are no problem.

Another problem is a newly discovered coral structure on the airport area. These coral must be taken into consideration that it entails more work. Due to these problems, the commissioning of the airport will be delayed. Originally planned opening was 2017/2018. It will now probably be 2019 until the airport goes into operation.

The runway of the new international airport in Panglao island shoul be at least 2.5 kms on the first stretch in order to accommodate long & wide-bodied airplanes such as the Boeing 77-300ER & AirbusA350-900, among others.

    very sad story!

the ideal quiet nice beaches and the beautiful island of panglao will be very NOISY and BUSY. Imagine you are relaxing in a beautiful white sand beach and suddenly a loud noise of large plane will annoy you…….ahhhhh…The idyllic Panglao island will be gone forever. This is a worse idea that can only comes from unable politicians. Just compare the other holiday island world wide most of the airports are outside the main holiday area. The current distance of the tagbilaran Airport today is perfect and it is a central position for the whole bohol. My prognosis in the future: there will be lesser foreigner tourists (european, asians) in bohol :(. My conclusion: Less nature, less tourist less economy, more unemployed, more poverty. :(
